3 Floyds Sightings In Ohio

For the first time since 2008, Ohio appears to be getting some 3 Floyds love again thanks to Cavalier Distributing.

The quantities appear to be limited at locations such as Bedford Heights-based Lizardville Beer Store & Whiskey Bar; 1 bottle each per person and no growler fills for the beers available on tap. According to additional reports from Ohio residents online, the allocations are the same or similar at other area bottle shops and bars, but I'm sure Ohioans aren't going to complain too much. At least now they don't have to drive hundreds of miles west to get their delicious brew.

The confirmations of a 3 Floyds return started to roll in on Tuesday via the @Lizardville Twitter account with:

Followed by the @3floyds Twitter account on Wednesday:

And finally again today from @Lizardville:

A salute from us to both 3 Floyds and our Ohio neighbors to the East - Enjoy!

And to our neighbors to the North - Sorry, Michigan, your long wait for 3 Floyds continues...

  1. Personally I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish here. Their beer is already spread incredibly thin, why bother with Ohio? On the other hand, if they are gauging interest before a possible brewery expansion, I guess that is good. Then again, it could just be a purely random move. Who knows with them.

  2. A very good point, my friend, and one I hadn't really considered earlier. While we're fortunate to usually be able to get their beers, it's not always a given. If all other things are equal, expansion into other markets could further strain their supply. Or, as you said, maybe they're up to something else? Worth keeping an eye on.

  3. From a legal perspective, Floyds might be trying to avoid a breach of contract lawsuit or fulfilling their end of the contract with Cavalier, so when the contract ends, they can sign with a new distributor. All speculation on my part, but from what I have heard, Floyds was extremely displeased with Cavalier the first time around and pulled out of Ohio due to that. Personally, I find their reentry into Ohio to be annoying, much like a little kid that has to share his toys.

  4. It's been a couple of days since I read this quote and I still can't get over it:

"I find their reentry into Ohio to be annoying, much like a little kid that has to share his toys."

I've said on numerous occasions, especially during or after traveling, that such-and-such area (i.e. the West Coast) has such fantastic beer, but I always finish those statements with something along the lines of the fact that I still wouldn't want to give up our region's beer to have regular access to other regions.

I liken this to Andrew's comment. Very well put.
