Founders Breakfast Stout at The Mark (NOW) and Bleachers (9/28)

Founders Breakfast Stout was recently tapped at The Mark in Eddy Street Commons. I unfortunately didn't write down the taplist, but Three Floyds Arctic Panzer Wolf was also on tap, with an additional keg waiting in the wings. Also worth noting is Three Floyds Dreadnaught on tap across the street at O'Rourke's Irish Pub.

Also, it looks like Bleachers in Mishawaka on Grape Road will be tapping Breakfast Stout and have a little release party at 6:30 PM this Friday (9/28). $5 pints!

P.S. - Currently enjoying a Three Floyds Rye da Tiger, their new Rye Double IPA. You can find this at the City Wide on Grape Road and the Belmont Bev. next to Notre Dame's campus. Highly recommended! The rye provides a nice spiciness on the finish. Cheers!

Founders Breakfast Stout Breakfast Tickets On Sale Tomorrow (10/19)

This may be of little solace to those who were left out in the cold attempting to track down a bottle of Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout, but Founders will be holding their annual Breakfast Stout Breakfast on Saturday, November 12th, from 10:00AM-1:00PM.

Please note, this is in celebration of the regular Breakfast Stout, if you can call such a delectable brew regular.

Tickets for this event go on sale tomorrow, 10/19, at 11:00AM EST and can be purchased at the Founders taproom for $30 each, limit 8 per person. If you're not going to be in the Grand Rapids, MI area, you can also purchase tickets with a credit card via phone by calling (616) 776-1195.

'11 Founders Breakfast Stout available in South Bend

If you enjoy Founders Breakfast Stout (Imperial Stout, 8.3%) as much as I do, you'll be pleased to hear it's available in the South Bend area now. This isn't a super rare beer, although it is seasonal. I recommend picking up two 4-packs or more (roughly $10 each) and drink half now, then age the rest. As a source of inspiration for this post, I decided to enjoy a bottle from '08.

A description of the beer from the Founders website...

"The coffee lover's consummate beer. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and Sumatra and Kona coffee, this stout has an intense fresh roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head that goes forever."

This is one of the beers that was the catalyst for my love affair with stouts.

Check out Citywide on Jefferson Ave in South Bend; they received about 5 cases.

'10 Founders Breakfast Stout on tap at Fiddler's Hearth (South Bend, IN)

If I had to guess which pub in the South Bend area would sit on a keg of '10 Founders Breakfast Stout (Imperial Stout, 8.3%) to release nearly a year later, without hesitation, my answer would be Fiddler's Hearth. Breakfast Stout is already a great beer, highly rated and loved by many; put a little age on it, and you've got something magical. Get a pint before it's too late!

Aroma: Chocolate, Coffee, Toffee and roasted malts


Appearance:  Very dark brown and opaque with a thick creamy brown head

Taste: Tastes of coffee and chocolate with just the right amount of bitterness, balanced well with malty sweetness

Mouthfeel: Thick and a little chewy, mild carbonation. 

 
Drinkability: This is a very delicious brew, and could easy drink a couple of these. 


Notes: This is a seasonal brew (Sept-Dec) from Founders which I was fortunate enough to try both in the bottle and on tap. Brewed with imported chocolates along with kona and sumatra coffee, this is a coffee-lovers stout. This is a pretty easy to find brew in the South Bend-Mishawaka-Elkhart area, and certainly worth giving a try.
